March is on the horizon and that means the NCAA® Division I Men’s Basketball Championship is almost here. It also means that plenty of guys (and gals) will soon be glued to their televisions. But what about those unlucky sports fans without a private sanctuary?
WoodTrac Ceiling System
Let’s face it. Most guys cringe at the thought of decorating anything. But since we’re talking about man caves, it’s less about coordinating paint palettes and more about enhancing your living experience. Most man caves are former basements…some with cement walls and pipes in the ceilings.
Since it’s important to keep an easy access to pipes for repairs and renovations, you may want to install a drop ceiling. The good news is that a WoodTrac Ceiling System is a drop ceiling product with the appearance of a custom-crafted three dimensional ceiling. Easy to install, it will add character to your man cave room at an affordable price. And, if you already have an existing grid ceiling that has seen better days, WoodTrac Ceiling Systems are compatible for a quick cosmetic update. Now here is where you might want some color advice. WoodTrac panel finishes include abbey oak, bank alder and paintable white ceiling options. For a more traditional ceiling appearance, WoodTrac offers an additional panel finish – a knock-down textured surface.
Plan Ahead
Whether you hire a contractor or decide to be a weekend warrior, you may want to visit the WoodTrac website. It has a ceiling estimator to help you map the room layout and select the right finishes and molding. You also want to estimate the time it’s going to take. Skilled contractors can generally knock out a 20′ x 20′ ceiling in half a day. Skilled DIYers working by themselves can accomplish the same installation in about a day.
Need to sell the project to your better-half or do you need further motivation? Take a look at this example of a ceiling project “before” and “after”.

Giving a Man Cave Character
Wall Décor. Did you notice The Ohio State University wall decal? Displaying a decal, banner or jersey to represent your favorite team is another way to personalize your man cave.
Couch. Unless you plan on standing throughout the game, an oversized couch is a man cave necessity. Look for one that is extremely comfortable and, preferably stain-resistant. For those who prefer watching the game in solitude, a recliner with a cup holder is the way to go.
Television. No matter how nice the couch, no one is going to watch the game on an old rear-projection TV from the 90’s. Invest in a nice flat-screen TV and remember — bigger is always better.
Important Extras. If your man cave is a regular hangout spot, you may want to invest in a pool table, dart board or a couple arcade cabinets. They are great for killing time during commercials and blowing off steam after a loss.
Mini-fridge. Every man cave needs a mini-fridge stocked with food and drinks. You don’t want to be the guy who misses the game-winning shot, because he went upstairs for chips and salsa.
Launching the Man Cave
Once your man cave is all set up, the only thing left to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the games. With a more attractive and functional setting, don’t be surprised to find you have a lot of friends stopping by to share in March Madness.
